About Sgt Grit
In March of 1969, when I got to Danang, Vietnam, I was a green 19 year-old radio operator with the 11th Marines. About that time, the movie, "True Grit" came out with John Wayne, who played the part of a US Marshall. A born and bred Okie, naturally, I got stuck with the nickname "Grit." I'd like to say it was because of my John Wayne type persona, but unfortunately, it was only because I was from Oklahoma.
As I moved up in rank, Grit moved up with me and I became "Sgt Grit." I was in Vietnam from March, 1969 to October, 1970 and loved it so much, I even extended my tour. When I started this business in 1988, my wife suggested I take back the name, Sgt Grit.
Sgt Grit began in 1988 with one t-shirt and a strong desire to help Marines. It progressed from being a business run out of the basement of his home, to a 22,500 sq. ft. warehouse and showroom with everything a Marine can imagine. We are located in Oklahoma City.
Future goals include adding to the existing warehouse and becoming the primary source for Marines to get gear, share stories, find buddies, and carry on the traditions of this great Brotherhood.
If you're ever in the area, come see our showroom. Get directions to Sgt Grit.
