Is THIS SOP for USMC?

I have twin sons, one joined Army NG, and the other USMC, this past year. I am really disappointed in the way the USMC seems to be run. First, sounds like there were some guys that never should have gotten into MC, and should have been kicked out of Boot, but they left them in, and the rest of the platoons suffers. I have read about this in books, nowadays they keep them in. Why do Recruits that have pneumonia not get treated? Or if you ask for med care, you get humiliated by DI’s? Why do Marines get left over Army crap? The Recruits shouldn’t have had to drink from canteens from Viet Nam.

More complaints from MCT, about crappy rifles that get jammed. Then after getting thru MCT, my son does 2 mos of guard duty at Camp Pen because they aren’t ready for him at MOS. Why do they make it 2 days on, 2 days off, with no sleep? Why not schedule even 12 hrs on and off, would be better, then at least you can sleep. WHY isn’t the whole 1st 6 mos scheduled better?? Then the Marines pay for my son’s ticket to go to Artillery school. He says Ft. Sill is decent for the Army, the Marines have crappy old buildings. He gets there, and he is literally put in a closet to sleep in last night, then this am they say we can’t put you in a school for a month, so contact your recruiter, try to get RA, buy a ticket and go home for a month.

Billions are paid on defense spending, and this is the best the US Govt can do for our Marines that are sacrificing for our country?

So a Marine publicly declares that his Commander-In-Chief is a domestic enemy of the United States and wants to hide behind the first amendment in doing so. What’s anyone think about this? Personally I think his oath as a Marine trumps his rights as a citizen and he should be thrown in the brig ASAP. There’s just no place for that kind of political activism in the Corps. It opens up a can of worms that could work in every direction of the political spectrum if allowed.

To some this may sound morbid but I need to do it now. Any information that can be given I would be thankful.
He served in Korea and retired with 30 years as a Master Sgt.

by Cmdr Edward C. Raymer, USN - Ret

It is the story of the raising of the ships sunk by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor.

I knew some of informaiton about this effort but did not realize the conditions under which those Navy - and some civilian contract - divers worked: zero visibility, the huge amonut of debris inside the ships, the dead bodies, and the oil. He does recount one instance where they entered one compartment, I think on the USS West Virginia, where they found the bodies of two sailors who had been keeping a log. The date of the last entry is 23 Dec which meant those two fellows had survived for some sixteen days. He also touches on some of the lighter moments of that time - I did not know that prohibition had been imposed on the islands. This is a personal memoir of Raymer and was a very good read.

(CNSNews.com) - The federal government has accumulated more new debt—$3.22 trillion ($3,220,103,625,307.29)-during the tenure of the 111th Congress than it did during the first 100 Congresses combined, according to official debt figures published by the U.S. Treasury.
That equals $10,429.64 in new debt for each and every one of the 308,745,538 people counted in the United States by the 2010 Census.
The total national debt of $13,858,529,371,601.09 (or $13.859 trillion), as recorded by the U.S. Treasury at the close of business on Dec. 22, now equals $44,886.57 for every man, woman and child in the United States.
In fact, the 111th Congress not only has set the record as the most debt-accumulating Congress in U.S. history, but also has out-stripped its nearest competitor, the 110th, by an astounding $1.262 trillion in new debt.
During the 110th Congress-which, according to the Clerk of the House, officially convened on Jan. 4, 2007 and adjourned on Jan. 4, 2009—the national debt increased $1.957 trillion. When that Congress adjourned less than two years ago, it claimed the record as the most debt-accumulating Congress in U.S. history. As it turned out, however, its record did not last long.
The $3.22 trillion in new federal debt run up during the 111th Congress exceeds by 64 percent the $1.957 trillion in new debt run up during the 110th.
Although the 111th Congress cast its last vote on Dec. 22, it will not officially adjourn until next week.
Democrats controlled both the House and Senate in the 110th and 111th Congresses.
The 108th Congress ($1.159 trillion in new debt) and 109th ($1.054 trillion in new debt) take third and fourth place among all U.S. Congresses for accumulating debt. In both these Congresses, Republicans controlled both the House and Senate.
Still, the $3.22 trillion in new debt accumulated during the record-setting 111th Congress is more than three times the $1.054 trillion in new debt accumulated by the last Republican-majority Congress (the 109th) which adjourned on Dec. 8, 2006.
Historically, according to the U.S. Treasury, the federal debt did not reach $3.22 trillion until September 1990, during the 101st Congress. Between the first Congress, which adjourned in 1791 leaving behind approximately $75 million in debt, and the convening of the 101st Congress, which occurred on Jan. 3, 1989, the national debt grew to $2.684 trillion.
During the Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) tenure as speaker, which commenced on Jan. 4, 2007, the federal government has run up $5.177 trillion in new debt. That is about equal to the total debt the federal government accumulated in the first 220 years of the nation’s existence, with the federal debt rising from $5.173 trillion on July 23, 1996 to $5.181 trillion on July 24, 1996.
In her inaugural address as speaker, Pelosi vowed that Congress would engage in no new deficit spending.
“After years of historic deficits, this 110th Congress will commit itself to a higher standard: Pay as you go, no new deficit spending,” she said in an address from the speaker’s podium. “Our new America will provide unlimited opportunity for future generations, not burden them with mountains of debt.”

Here is an accounting of the new debt accumulated during the tenure of each Congress since the 101st. The convening and adjourning dates are reported by the Clerk of the House and the debt levels are recorded by the U.S. Treasury:
<U>Congress Convening/Adjourning Debt Levels</U>

ABOVE and BEYOND Campaign

On 1/11/11 The National Veterans Art Museum (NVAM) announced its ABOVE and BEYOND Campaign. Named after the famed 10 X 40 foot installation piece entitled ABOVE and BEYOND - this memorial is comprised of more than 58,000 imprinted dog tags representing each of the service men and women who died in the Viet Nam War.

It is the only permanent Viet Nam War memorial other than “The Wall” in Washington, D.C., to list all those killed in action. It is located in and owned by the NVAM. We encourage you to visit this one of a kind museum and help us preserve it for future generations.

We are excited to be moving in 2012 to a larger faculty in Chicago. A donation to The Above and Campaign will help us move, protect and preserve this memorial as well as more than 2,000 works of art in the museum’s permanent collection.

Won’t you please sponsor a dog tag in the ABOVE and BEYOND memorial at just $10 each? You can dedicate your sponsorship to honor and in memory of a veteran or loved one. To sponsor dog tags please visit http://www.nvam.org or you can send a check to NVAM - Above and Campaign, 1801 S. Indiana Ave., 3rd floor, Chicago, IL 60616.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visits the Moscow Planetarium, where he chaired a meeting on a new Russian launchpad.

MOSCOW — Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said last week that Russia will spend about $1 billion this year to build a new space launch pad in the far east that should ease the Russian space program’s reliance on neighbor Kazakhstan.

Putin told government officials in televised remarks the first rocket launch from the estimated $10 billion-Vostochny cosmodrome is set to be conducted by 2015, and in 2018 it should launch a first manned mission.

Putin said Russia will continue to use the Soviet-built Baikonur launch pad it leases from Kazakhstan, but added that a new launch facility of its own is needed to secure the national space program’s independence.

“Only the existence of several space launch pads would guarantee Russia a full independence in space activities,” Putin said.

Russia also has the Plesetsk launch pad in the north used mostly for launches of military satellites.

Vostochny, where construction began last year, is located outside the town of Uglegorsk in the far eastern Amur region.

Putin said the new facility will include more than 40 apartment buildings for personnel and the necessary infrastructure to make it a “comfortable, modern town.”

“We won’t repeat the past when they were saving money on people,” he said. “It will create a stimulus for the developme
