- Posted by Roger Hess I served with the 3rd Marine division Headquarters Battalion Motor Transport in Vietnam from March 68 through April 69. Main Base was at Quang Tri. We also had a compound in Dong Ha. Ran convoys to Da Nang and up to Khe Sanh. Was a wrecker driver. Christmas picture was taken in my hooch in Quang Tri. Lots of memories coming back with picture.

It was zero dark thirty and nobody was around as we observed that our rooms had combo locks on the doors. The choppers took us to some LZ where we off loaded and they left. Sgt Grit here is my orders for Parris Island from 3rd Mar Div. Left Treasure Island an arrived there in time for Sgt McKeon's Plt to still be there, He is the one who lost 6 men in the swamp, I am not trying to stir up anything my feeling is maybe if those had not panicked maybe would had made thur the swamp. Now I'm on dissability and cand get my benifets for my war time service. I lost all my records in a house fire and no one can seem to help me or maybe there too sorry to help me at all. I cannot got back to the Marines due to my dissability. …

Here is a picture of 3rd Recon hooch. Thought you might like to have it even though it is Bravo CO. Also air drop in 1967. I thought some of your readers might enjoy this photo of 3rd Service Battalion, Camp Mcterous/Camp Butler Okinawa and the small ville "Kawasaki" just outside the main gate. I did two tours at this base 61/62 and came back a year later 63/64. First tour in 2nd Lt Supt Co and the second tour in Medium Supt Co. Thanks Gerald Schmotzer USMC-60/64 L/Cpl-2111
