Bucket Issue and Transplacement Bn

Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego - 1946
Posted by Sgt Grit Staff Photo of MCRD San Diego in 1946 In recent Sgt. Grit Newsletters many subjects have been addressed, some of which I would like to give my personal accounts as a Marine. I enlisted August 6, 1946 in Houston and graduated boot camp at MCRD San Diego October 12. 1. We never used or heard the expression "OORAHH". It was always "Semper Fi" or "Gung Ho". 2. Quonset Huts at MCRD San Diego
Posted by Sgt Grit Staff Marine standing in front of the Quonset Huts Don, In the last issue of the Sgt Grit's Newsletter someone wrote incorrectly about the quantity of Quonset Huts at MCRD San Diego. When the USMC Vietnam Tankers Association held our last reunion (Aug 2011) in San Diego, we attended a recruit graduation and afterward we toured the base. One of our members (Glenn Hutchinson) had the photo taken at the "Memorial to the Old Corps" below... S/F -John

I figure we were set up anyway. Well since I was the leader all 120 lbs and 5' and 7" I got jumped by …
