Just Plain Lethal
Posted by Sgt Grit Staff Photos of Cpl Kunkel marching, Cpl Kunkel and fellow Marines at Camp Geiger, and a photo of Freddy Kunkel in 1963 Sgt Grit, Attached are three pictures that I just came across yesterday while looking through old photos. The top photo is of me marching as the guide next to Sgt Mazenko on graduation day (Oct 27, 1981 - Platoon 2063 Parris Island). Back then for graduation we marched in Columns of two with the SDI out in front and the "junior" DI's each marching in front of a section of the platoon, but not sure how it is done today. UA Smoking
Posted by Rick OldenburgAs I remember it, it was a beautiful sunny day at MCRD San Diego 1977 when all hell broke loose! I was called front and center and all I could think, what now, what now. You see I went in on a buddy plan with my brother and cousin. My brother and I were in 2039 while my cousin was in 2040, but he was supposed to be in 2039 with us. He raised enough stink, that he got his wish and was moved into 2039. Note: never ever stir …

Busted In Boot Camp!
Posted by Guest Web Account Snapping in How it was I got busted in boot camp! Introduction: I was in Platoon 113, 3rd Battalion, Parris Island, April thru July 1956. DI's were Sgt. Cagla, Cpl. Our platoon was being formed during our first week, first week of April, they called it "Casual Company" which was anything but casual. So while being formed we wound up in the old wooden barracks on the rifle range before being shuffled into 3rd Battalion …

Broom Closet
Posted by sgt grit staff DI motivating a Marine A year or two ago, I met a man online whom I admire and respect very much, Anthony Goddard. We have never met in person and communicate via email and telephone. He retired as a Gunnery Sergeant after 20 years in the Corps and now lives in Maryland. He was awarded a Bronze Star with "V" for Valor, 3 Purple Hearts and too many other medals and ribbons to mention here (you oughta see his shadow box). He was also a Senior DI at Parris Island. We've swapped a few …
