- National Anthem
- I recently came across this on the internet, and thought you all might like it as well. It is fairly self explanatory. Just type this in your search box. This is a picture of PFC Dalton Welsh (24th Marines), United States Marine Corps, presenting the U.S. Flag at his grandfather’s (Lonnie Welsh) funeral to his great grandfather (Homer Welsh), a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. PFC Welsh’s grandfather, a Vietnam era veteran of the U.S. Army, passed away unexpectedly on December 12, 2011. There was a mix-up in getting the U.S. Army Honor Guard to the cemetery, and PFC Welsh stepped up and offered to do the flag presentation at the last minute. Having never done …

I have been reading the letters from other Marines that have attached WWII dog tags. Just thought that I would send my dad's. I carry his along with mine on my key chain. He wore these in WWII and Korea. I lost my dad back in 2003, and know that there are fewer and fewer of the WWII Marines around, but I would like to hear from anyone that may have known my Dad. My Dad, Don L. Hampton, was from Sweetwater, Texas. Semper Fi Rannie P. Hampton Sgt 1969 …

Mike Shaw's story about serving under Sgt. Maj. Linehan when he was a Gunny, got me to thinking there may be more who read this newsletter, that served with or under the Sgt. Maj. Mike is correct. There is a Marine Corps League detachment in Lewiston Idaho named after the Sgt. Maj. SGT MAJ LINEHAN/N C IDAHO Marine Corps League Detachment 1034 The attached newspaper article tells the story of his early career better than I could. While serving under him in 1965, I had no idea he had served …

In reading this current newsletter you can understand my shock as to whom LCDR Dave Dennihy MC honored in the 5K. The first photo attached, on a Tribute bike built for him and my son, is Tyler O. Griffin, who lost his life in front of my son. Effectively saving my son's life. I would assume that LCDR Dennihy may have worked on my son as both he and Tyler were medevaced together. I and my son would be honored if you could post the photos of the motorcycle. If …

Dear Sgt. Grit, I am submitting the below in hopes that you can get the word out to the other 4th Marine Division Marines about their brother Russell A. Smith. I was on a business trip to Mobile and I decided to make a pilgrimage to the grave of E. B. Sledge. He is buried at the Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama in the SW corner of section 12 R near a non paved road. Ironically he is not listed as one of the famous persons buried in the cemetery. This is Landon Carpenter --born one month after his Dad paid the price in Afghanistan serving with 3/8. It is clearly one of the most moving photos I have seen representing the sacrifice of our Marines in this conflict. All gave some...some gave all. SF Rich

Here is a pic of my dad in Cherry Point, NC in the early '60's. I remember him getting his s**t together, first time I ever saw a rifle and K-bar. I knew this was serious. Most likely Cuban Missle Crisis related. He was an expert diver and was the President at the local base diving club, MCAS Cherry Point. We moved to San Diego when he went to Viet Nam for 13 months and he was stationed in Chu Lai. Back to MCAS Kaneohe after a short stint at …
