USMC Weapons Carriers - M37 Dodge
Posted by Sgt Grit Staff Larry and friend next to raised engine in garage In a recent news letter T Stewart talked about USMC Weapons Carriers or Personnel Carriers as they were later called. He said when he tried to Google the term all he got was pictures of late model vehicles. I would suggest he Google M37 Dodge and he will find the vehicle he is looking for. I am in the process of doing a frame up restoration on one built in 1953 which I hope to complete by the fall of this year. I have also enclosed a couple of pictures …

M-37 truck
Posted by Sgt Grit Staff M-37 Truck and Marines   Sgt Grit, In your 2Feb2012 newsletter, T. Stewart asked about a truck he called a “weapons carrier”.  I believe the truck his referring to is a M-37.  I’ve attached a couple of pictures I found.  When I first arrived in Vietnam, Sept 1966, several of us were told we would spend the next 2 weeks providing security for a LAAM  Battery atop hill 327.  Our ‘hooch was at the base of 327 so we were trucked day and night in the back of a M-37, called just a PC …

Early 1950’s Personnel Carrier Redux
Posted by Sgt Grit Staff Two shots of Marine Personnel Carrier   I read with interest the letter from Sgt T. Stewart, USMC 1952-55, concerning the USMC Personnel Carrier. I wonder if the persistence and insidiousness of time haven't messed with his memories. I know it happens to me, all the time. Things I would swear to are no more than a warped shadow of the true past. That may be why he's having such a difficult time finding the vehicle he remembers.   Anyway, what we called a Personnel Carrier (PC) during the early '60s was an M37 3/4 ton …

Sgt Stewart’s 6X6
Posted by Sgt Grit Staff Sgt Stewarts 6X6 Probably a WC-63 1 1/4 Ton. Used everywhere in ETO served in The Corps from July 1952 to July 1955. Everywhere we went there were four wheeled vehicles called Weapons Carriers. They were almost as common as jeeps. When we were going through training at Camp Pendleton the FMF Corpsman used to drive a real neat six wheeled vehicle when we went out into the field. We called it a Personnel Carrier. One might say it was like a miniature deuce and a half 6x6. I seldom ever saw any …

Purple Heart bike
Posted by Sgt Grit Staff Art of Tyler O. Griffin on bike In reading this current newsletter you can understand my shock as to whom LCDR Dave Dennihy MC honored in the 5K. The first photo attached, on a Tribute bike built for him and my son, is Tyler O. Griffin, who lost his life in front of my son. Effectively saving my son's life. I would assume that LCDR Dennihy may have worked on my son as both he and Tyler were medevaced together. I and my son would be honored if you could post the photos of the motorcycle. If …

Posted by Sgt Grit Staff U.S. Marines graphic on front of truck Hey Sgt. Grit, I have been looking for a large decal of the Marine Corps Emblem to put on the back of my enclosed trailer, large enough to be seen more than 3 feet away. When I saw your ad for the ground cover, I looked at it and thought it would be perfect. So, I ordered the emblem and the large Semper Fi. They arrived in just a few days. I placed them on a large piece of cardboard from a big box that I opened up, traced the …
