Brandon Sturdy Tribute
Sturdy's family says he was killed by a 155 millimeter modified explosive while on patrol near Fallujah last week. The soldier had already been awarded a purple heart for an earlier injury. The Urbandale native joined the marines a year ago. His family released this statement about Brandon: " He joined to serve our country and fight for our freedom. He was the best of the best, and he died in the greatest sense of honor, serving his country. His life is a measuring stick. We have to hold it up in the utmost respect and try to live up to it."
I am so proud to have had Brandon represent us, fighting for our freedom and country. I thank my nephew. Though your life was brief as was your military career, you lived your dream. I am so proud to be your aunt.
I extend my deepest sympathy in my brother's bereavement. Your son fought valiantly in a supreme hour of our country's need. His memory will live on in the grateful heart of our family. God's grace will strengthen you at this time of sorrow.
All my love, your sister, Debbie Rottler
