Carried Around the Design for 20 Years!

billwilder1 billwilder3 billwilder2 I'm enclosing several pictures showing the great tee shirt you sent me, a picture of the dress blues issued me at Parris Island April 1949. Thanks to your company I was able to bring them up to date. Also the display on the wall of my bedroom with items from you, the Marine Corps and the Korean Govt.

I had declined to bring my uniform up to date and wrote to HQMC and requested any information they had in regard to the ribbons I was entitled to. To my surprise they sent me five medals. At a ceremony here in Deland, FL the Korean Govt. presented to all vets of the war 1950 to 1953 the large medallion in the upper right of the picture. The rifle, pistol badges, the S/Sgt stripe and the 1st Mar Div patch came from you. The Marine Corps emblem in the upper center of the display came from an old China Marine from Enid, OK. It's about 70 yrs old. Thanks for all the items you sent. As you can tell I will always be proud of being a Marine

Statues

Ourso

I am a dance and theatre artist in the St. Tammany Public School system in Louisiana. I service K - 5th grade students in various residencies. My son recently became a marine. I ordered a sculpture from you of the Marines raising the flag at Iwo Jima. I intended to give it to my son as a present but before I did I used it in 2 different ways with the children I teach.

The first residency I taught was a mime class. I start out with what mime is, some history and pictures etc. Then we work on facial expressions, hand techniques, walks, isolations and little "sketches". These sketches are people in situations that handle different objects, react to them etc. Then I talk about being a living statue, how to keep that inner "hum" to be alive but be absolutely still. Finally, I give the students pictures of statues or show them a few statues that I have and assign them the task of becoming that statue, frozen at first. Then, they are to come alive, do something in mime as that person, and then become frozen again. The children have to work together in cases where the statue has more than one person. I use Greek, military and modern art type statues. The boys love the military ones. We used the Marines at Iwo Jima statue.

The second residency I do with the same statue was a mixed theatre/visual art and dance one. I feature Norman Rockwell's Four Freedoms Paintings: The Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Fear, and Freedom from Want. I pull in a lot of WWII history as that is when they were painted, we look at maps, and do a U.S.O. Show (dance). I have some models of WWII battle ships and the Marine Flag raising statue for them to view afterward. One boy remembered the statue because he actually used it in the mime class before. This time they found the Island on a world map and had a little history of that battle explained to them.

So, the children are seeing art, learning history, and becoming hooked on the principles of freedom that made this country great and hopefully connecting it with people who make that happen, our military. My son is in recon school now, and the statue sits in my living room. I look at it and think of him.

I do not have a picture of anything specific with the statue. I am submitting a picture of one 3rd grade mime class in the art lab at Pontchartrain Elementary School posing as a person leaning on an imaginary shelf. The date on the picture is not correct. I do not always remember to adjust the camera.

Semper Fi from central Illinois. I'm enclosing 3 pictures of my daughter with the Marine Corps gear we had purchased from you. Totally satisfied with the quality and the price. Not to Mention how cute she looks. Just thought you would like to see our little addition to the Corps family. It's ok if you would like to put this up on the website.

And The Winners Are: Bandana Quilt

Quilt

Quilts make a beautiful topper for any bed and are great for country picnics too. I love to sew and I make quilt tops from your handkerchiefs. They are set in blue and have the blood stripe around the edge. I have them professionally quilted at a local shop here in Nashville. I did not have a photo of a finished quilt so the photo attached was taken by the person who received this quilt as a gift. It is difficult to see the real beauty of this product with this limited view. When I finish the quilt I am working on now I will send you a full view photo. I'm glad you had this contest. I have wanted to share this idea with you for a while. I hope others will try this. Everyone who has seen my quilts love them.

Subject: Contest for most unique, creative, gung ho, unusual, hard charging, strange, imaginative, and ingenious, use of Sgt Grit product.

For the past few years I have been fortunate enough to be involved in flying two beautifully restored UH-34 helicopters to Marine Bases & Airshows across the country. One of these aircraft, I actually flew in combat in Vietnam 33 years ago. There are few people who can say that they flew the same aircraft in combat 33 years ago & are still flying it today. To say life has been good to me, is an understatement. It doesn't get any better than this. However, while flying one of these aircraft (YL-42, owned by Jim Moriarty) from Houston, TX to one of the Marine Corps Airshows (Destination intentionally omitted for reasons which will become evident later), Gunny Sachs & I were flying IFR (I Follow the Road) at about 500 feet over a major highway. We were experiencing some pretty hefty headwinds, which reduced our ground speed from the usual 90 knots to only about 45 knots. It was getting pretty embarrassing because trailer trucks were passing us - going up hill! Anyhow, we were getting pretty ass-worn & our eyeballs were starting to float. The Sikorsky H-34 we were flying was built in 1961 & was not fitted with a "relief tube." (Which most of the crewchiefs used to turn around anyway, to make it blow back up). As thanks for their anticipated hospitality, I had just purchased a few appropriate gifts for the Base & Squadron CO's, from Sgt. Grit:

---- A COUPLE OF REALLY NEAT ENGRAVED SILVER CANTEEN CUPS ----

I asked our crew chief, Frenchy LaFontaine, to pass them up. The rest --- as they say ---- is history.

Dear Sgt. Grit:

usmcboy My husband and I (both being former Marines) enjoy your website very much! And we have high hopes for our 2 year old son and our soon to be born son (due in July) to become Marines also.

Well, being proud parents we are always taking candid snap shots of our little guy. When we got this roll of film developed we were pleasantly surprised to find this picture in here. It was so cute we just had to share it with you and your staff. (Also it's a great advertisement for the Corps) (*And your merchandise*) Again, we really enjoy your website and all the products you offer! Thanks!

Mr. Schneider

IM000112 schneiderarticle Sgt. Grit
This morning, upon receiving the beautiful sword, frog, and white gloves from you, I took the accompanying picture at the side of my house. I like it very much as it shows the ribbons and medals plus the First Marine Division patch, beautiful sword with tassle, white leather frog, and gloves. You have the choice of the other picture or this one for the web page entry.

Gerald Schneider

See the article below to read about Mr. Schneider

Dear Sgt. Grit,
As a result of you giving me the 1-800 number of the Navy supply company in Chesapeake, VA; then with you supplying the ribbons, medals, and sword with frog, I was able to assemble this parade ready, Dress Blue uniform. Thanks. I've worn it to several functions, and it really looks sharp.

A free lance reporter who lives in Fritch, Texas and does stories for newspapers in the Texas Panhandle, called me wanting pictures and text for an article. The story is included above. Over the phone, he got a few items wrong, but it is essentially correct.

If you don't have a uniform like this, I suggest you get one and we can make some parades together. That would show off your wares and create more business, [maybe]. Wishing you and yours the best of the season.

I remain, Yours Truly,
Gerald Schneider
