Proud Marine Mom

My Marine son graduated 3056 Lima Co, Parris Island, on 21 July 2006. I proudly attended the Emblem Ceremony and the Graduation, and will cherish these memories for life. Long before the event, I had searched for a suitable card to present to him afterwards. We drove back to his barracks to retrieve his sea bags and other items. I parked and saw lots of folks reading my bumperstickers (check the pictures I've attached!).

Various Drill Instructors could be seen, some observing from the external stairwells of the barracks, others greeting parents on the deck in front of the building. After the car was loaded, I observed his Heavy Hat nearby, and handed my son his card. I instructed him to read it /aloud/, in the presence of his Heavy Hat.

He began reading: "Congratulations! Under NO circumstances WHATSOEVER are you to open this card." Hesitating for several seconds, he opened it and continued reading aloud, "How you /ever /got this far with no respect for authority, I'll never know!" So much for what had been printed on the card... under all this, I had handscrawled, "Now drop and give me 25!", and my Marine read this aloud as well.

The Heavy Hat was hard-pressed to not laugh. My son looked at him, then at me, then promptly dropped to the deck to begin his pushups. He hollered out, "One! Two!" and was all set for the third when a voice from the stairwell above (another of his Drill Instructors) called out, "Spell 'em, Atwood!" I immediately realized that the lad was now going to have to execute a /significantly /greater number of pushups than the original 25. Yipe!

He began anew, shouting: "O-n-e, t-w-o", descending on one letter and rising on the next. He was spelling s-i-x when that same DI asked him how he was feeling. Bear in mind that it was a typical mid-summer day for Parris Island... hot and plenty humid. My son instantly responded, "Awesome, sir!" and continued his pushups.

A number of moms wore horrified expressions as they observed my Marine. New Marines passed by, looking bemused. /All /the Drill Instructors in the area had their eyes on my Marine. Even the Battalion Commander had come over to watch. Someone asked, "/What /did he do?", unable to figure out why my Marine was being ITd. The Heavy Hat replied, "His mother... card... read it."

The card was passed and read by all. By the time my Marine had spelled out t-w-e-n-t-y t-w-o, he was released from the pushups; he'd done about 65 all told. He stood up, only then realizing the extent of his "audience". By this time, just about everyone was chuckling. We figure that the tale of these post- Graduation pushups probably made it all around the Island by the end of the day! I couldn't be more proud of him!

Look at the Grandkids!!! Clothes by Sgt Grit :)

Dear Sgt. Grit...

Just wanted to share a picture that we had taken for my retired marine dad of his grandkids all outfitted in "Marine Wear" from your catalog. This picture has brought so much pleasure to dad...he is a Viet Nam Vet with the First Marine Division. He was wounded in Da Nang and was honorably discharged in 1968. This tough 57 year old marine has gone through so much in the past 3 years...4 heart attacks, quadruple bypass surgery and a kidney transplant just 2 weeks ago (my amazing sister was the donor!!)

Whenever he is in the hospital, he ALWAYS insists that this picture is in the room before he is.

Thank you so much for the joy that you have brought to my father and God Bless all of you at Sgt. Grit.

Malia in Rocking Chair

This is a video of my granddaughter Malia on the Marine rocking chair I bought from you for her first birthday. It is precious and I wanted to share it with you to tell you what a joy it is to her. I’m so happy I found it on your gift site! Daddy is Sgt Patrick Hammer and Mommy Danica Hammer stationed in Kaneohe Bay Hawaii.

Thanks.

MSgt of Marines T-Shirt

Hello,

This is a picture of a “MSgt of Marines T-shirt” that I ordered for my husband from ya’ll a while back. It isn’t quite green anymore so he can’t wear it under his cammies LOL.. Our rottie (her name is Harley) kept dragging it out of the trash pile we were making while cleaning out our closets for our move back to Okinawa (yes she is going with us). So we decided to put it on her.. she wore it around the entire day without pulling it off! Quite impressive for a puppy who has never worn clothes. Enjoy.

Gunny's New Vest

Sgt Grit and Staff,

I have been ordering from you and your company for a few years and have enjoyed your catalogs and news letters. I finally got myself a new buddy and he loves wearing his new vest from your company. I was hoping to get one made of the new Marine digital pattern, any plans in the works for that?

Attached are a few photos of my English bulldog “Gunny”. I named him “Gunny” due to the fact that he will pretty much run my life, being a former SSGT, I know exactly what kind of life a Gunny can make for you.

Hope you enjoy the photos and if you would like to publish them for your readers/customers feel free to do so.

I couldn't find anything like the derby covers you sell for the Harleys so I used one of your 4" stick on Marine Corps seals and made my own.

Son's Room

Sgt Grit-

I am a frequent visitor to your site and an avid consumer of USMC products. With the upcoming birth of my son, I wanted to create a unique room that would last well into his formative years.

You'll notice the bumper stickers were used as border and I sent an image to a wallpaper company so I could have one entire wall showcasing one of my old CH-53's landing on an aircraft carrier. I would have also loved to have used ribbons (stickers) as border but the ones you offer online are way too small.

The fan is an F4 Corsair from Hunter Douglas and the tool chests (furniture) are from Lowe's. I'm still looking for some decent cammo netting to use over the windows... but in the meantime I think you get the idea. The only thing not pictured is the separation of paint schemes from the air (light blue) to sea (navy) to land (tan). The bumper stickers separate the air from the sea and we added a chair rail to separate the sea from the land.

In any event, we love your web site and the products you offer. Thanks for making shopping easy and keep adding new products... chances are I'll be buying them well into the future.

USMC Flag

USMC Red Flag Proudly displaying our USMC flag from Sgt. Grit. By the way this flag saved our bacon....we live on a 60 acre farm in the Pacific Northwest. At the crack of dawn one morning a SWAT team of DEA guys drove up our 1/4 mile long driveway trying to access a spot in the woods north of our property where a pot field had been spotted from the air. Looking suspiciously at us at first [my husband was smoking....and he rolls his own to save money]they spotted the USMC flag and immediately relaxed. From their subsequent comments we could tell we were off the hook in their minds, as rightfully we should have been. Finding no way to get-there-from-here, they left and we never saw them again. I don't know if they ever found what they were looking for, and I haven't had the nerve to hike back there and look for it either. Periodically though a blackhawk type helicopter circles the woods north of our place real low in a grid search pattern. When they fly by, I just stand by my Sgt. Grit USMC flag and wave.

Chucks and Dog Tags

B. Cobb in his Chucks Our son waiting on the safe return of his father June 5th, 2005

I just wanted to send in a picture of our son this past weekend from his father's homecoming at MCAS Miramar. He was all decked out in his "Chucks" (charlies) like daddy's. And daddy was sure glad to see his "little marine"! My husband, Ssgt Christopher Cobb was with the 15th MEU(HMM-165 REIN MALS-16 DET) aboard the USS Bonhomme-Richard on a 6 month deployment. They were a part of Operation Unified Assistance and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Needless to say both father and son were joined once again, ohhhh and mommy too :) He is 11 months old. P.S we got the dog tags from www.grunt.com for the outfit too!!!

Thanks, Patricia Cobb

The Few bib

my grandson Ethan
Pic of my grandson Ethan Lowenthal wearing his The Few bib while checking out solid food for the first time. His incredulous look must stem from the tales I was telling him about fifteen cent sodas and twenty five cent beer I bought while in country.

Thanks for the variety of Marine items that you have for us old jarheads to purchase. I am working on another order as I type this. I have been passing your website on to all Marine families that I encounter. I hope they enjoy looking and buying as much as I do.

My Use of Grit's Products

Removeable sunscreen and tag Close-up of removeable sunscreen Flag and seal sunscreen, tag frame, ribbons Flag and seal sunscreen, tag frame, ribbons and trailer hitch brake light

Here are a few pics of my use of Grit's products, and these are just of my SUV. I've also bought many books, clothing articles and covers. And they are all of the highest quality with the best customer support that anyone could ask for.

And the best thing about Grit's products is that they identify me as an old Marine who is still proud of his time in the Corps, and this has allowed me to meet many other old Marines because they always come up to me and ask, "Where did you get that?". That starts off the conversation, then it's when were you in, where were you stationed, what was your MOS. Usually these people I meet because of Grit's products are complete strangers to me until I find out they are also old Marines, then it's like I've found a long, lost brother. Which is what we are, the Brotherhood of the Corps.
