Dear Sgt. Grit

keithbike1 keithbike2 keithplate Great Newsletter. I served with the 2/27 the summer of '68 and turned 21 in the jungle with the 1/9 that September, where I stayed until June of '69. I just wanted a cold beer (or any beer for that matter). Then I wanted a Harley. You have asked for pictures of trucks, which I also have (a 2000 Ford F250 Diesel), but I choose to send picture(s) of my bike. A 2000 HD Heritage Classic with a custom plate my wife ordered on a much better birthday.

Not as Lean, Not as Mean, But Still A Marine.

The Grit Mobile

Grit-Mobile-1 Grit-Mobile-2 Grit-Mobile-3 Grit-Mobile-4 Grit-Mobile-5 Grit-Mobile-6 Grit-Mobile-7 The Grit Mobile is a 1973 Porsche 914 Platform. It has two radiators in the front and a fan pulling air through and exiting out the fender wells. A SCCA fuel cell holds the fuel. It has Porsche suspension. It has a 383" Chevrolet V-8 power hooked up to a Porsche trans axle. Air sis sent to the engine via two fluted boxes that have dry ice in them for extra power. Two fans in the engine bay exit the warm air out of the bay. The 5 speed trans axle has stepped up gears for high end speed. The engine by the way is in the middle, right behind the driver. 14" wide tires on rear -- 12" on the front. The wheels and tires pictured are just for rolling. Centerline racing wheels and Yokohama tires are used to go fast.

The American Dream . . . A Rolling Tribute

yoder1 yoder2 yoder3 yoder4

Hi Sgt Grit. thanks for the extra stickers the guys at the VA Hospital send their thanks also.

I too am doing my part in a small way to remember those who came home and those who didn't. I am also sending a message of patriotism to those who have forgot. I am doing this through the murals on my Custom 97 Ford Truck Called "American Dream". My truck is being made into a Rolling Tribute to all my brother veterans. It is also a tribute to our Great Flag. On the hood of the truck is a Bald eagle crashing through the hood and the Flag and in between his wings is 2 soldiers one of which is helping the other up into heaven.

In the Eagles' eye is the POW/MIA Symbol. The red and white colors of the flag on the hood drape down to turn into flames along the sides of the truck. On the Tailgate is another eagle coming through the flag like he means business with the caption below "THIS FLAG WON'T BURN"!!. there are also ghost soldiers who stand guard with their weapons drawn to show I mean business. On each side widow is a different mural, one with and eagles head and a flag background with the caption "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE"!!. On the other side a different eagle and flag background and the caption reads "I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE U.S.A.". Soon the toneau cover will have the most moving part emotionally that is. It will have a picture of the Wall of Remembrance in D.C. and a special tribute mural for our MIAs and POWs (this part is very special and is very moving emotionally. Anyway here are some photos I thought I'd share with you and anyone you wish to share them with. Updated ones will follow if you want them. It is only my humble way of showing I will not forget.

Sincerely and Semper Fi,

Sgt. Donald Yoder,

A Grunt Too Old to Walk

I Decided that if the Corps wanted a 56 year old vet again, that I was not going to hump. As you can see I am going to finish rebuilding my M50A1 Ontos. Thought you may get a kick out of seeing one again.

Bummer of a Hummer

hummerMy husband, SGT. Cooke, got this hummer stuck in the mud, and I think it is the best picture of him that I have seen so far. This was taken earlier last year when we just got stationed in Indian Head, MD at the Naval Surface Warfare Center. Thought you could do something with this picture!
