Powell Quote

Frenchcoastline

When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush.
He answered by saying that, "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return." It became very quiet in the room.

Future Marine Brothers

Brotherhood

I was looking through your website and thought I would share this picture with you. My sons, Cameron (left) and Brandon came home one Thursday and informed me that Career Day at school was Friday. They have wanted to be Marines for the last three years, but we didn't have time to get uniforms together in 3 short hours. Do you know how hard it is to find a khaki shirt in sizes 10 and 12? NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE! We had to make due with white shirts. We had blue trousers and used red duct tape for the blood stripe. They had makeshift uniforms but they sure felt REAL Marine Corps Pride when they walked into that school.

Harrier Going Up

"Several years ago, I located your web-site conducting a search for Marine Corps awards and plaques and have been hooked since. I truly enjoy your E-mail newsletters and often forward them to deployed Marines overseas or afloat so that they can enjoy them also. I have visited your OKC store several times and I want to thank you for your Marine Specialties store, and your staff for doing a superb job in customer service. I have also enclosed a photo of myself and Arnold Schwarzenegger during the 1994 filming of James Cameron's "True Lies". I thought you might enjoy hanging this on your "Hallway" near the front entrance of your store. Just to fill you in-I am not a Marine Harrier pilot, but in fact a Grunt and only filled in for a Harrier pilot from VMA 223 and ended up getting the spot in the movie. I was stationed at the Inspector-Instructor Staff in Miami, Florida at the time of the filming(At (TOW) Company, 8th Tank Battalion-now AT(TOW) and Scout Platoon, 8th Tank Bn) training Reserve Anti-Tank Marines and just happened to be in the right place at the right time."

True Lies Article

Hello,
I was searching the web and found your site. I am happy to see such an OUTSTANDING effort. I read a story by a Gunny in Florida about the movie TRUE LIES. Well, I am the Harrier Pilot that he stood in for as a double. I have some other details but maybe this will help with a little of what happened with one Marine on the True Lies set.

Marine Pride

polishing1 polishing2

Here is a little known fact that will brighten your day. At the WALL sets a flag pole and at it's base are the seals of all the services. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard....... Well every day a group from Eight & I (Eight and I is the Marine Barracks Detachment in Washington, DC.) come to the flag and polish the Marine Emblem. The other services have NEVER touched theirs..... Submitted by many, many, proud Marines.

THE WALL

wall1 wall2 wall3 wall4

Two weeks ago I came across photos in your Newsletter and then subsequently in the "other" category which is contained in your BS page of 8th and I Marines shining the brass base plate of the flag pole by the Vietnam Veteran Memorial (The Wall). As an old Hospital Corpsman I felt shame that the Navy section of the base plate was tarnished. So I recruited my brother, another Corpsman, to travel down to D.C. at zero dark thirty Saturday, 14 JUL 01, and went to work on the Navy section of the base plate. We took care of the Marine section as well. Given our ties with the Corps, we felt it appropriate to give the 8th and I guys a day off. I have attached pics of this evolution and would appreciate it if you would post them your in your next newsletter so that our fellow Corpsman and Marines see that we also understand the meaning of Pride.

Thanking you in advance,

I'm a former USMC photographer, Korean vintage. Also, I'm a life member ofthe Detachment 155 Marine Corps League. We have an annual rifle shoot each year. While my compadres were putting up a tent, I saw the possibilities of a great photo. So, I will attach it. HHmmm. It DOES look a bit familiar, doesn't it ? hhhmmmm. I wonder why it reminds me of something else.......hhhmmmm.

General Shoup

generalshoup I'd like to put in my two cents worth on the survey "your favorite Marine." Although I agree with the other votes there is one that is definitely missing. David M. Shoup. His heroism at Tarawa and duty to the Corps deserves a vote. He's got mine. I had the privilege to shake the man's hand at graduation from MCRD San Diego in 56. I had no Idea who he was at the time but I sure as hell do now.

Sgt Maj Daniel Daly

Thought the readers may be interested in this photo. He is related to me on my mothers side of the family, I found his grave at the Cypress Hills Cemetery in Queens, NY. It was all over grown with weeds and the headstone was filthy, so I scrubbed the headstone with soap and water and cut the grass. It is sad that these true heroes have been forgotten.
