Corps Values

I got these two in fall of 2006. Corps Values are what Marines live by and make them who they are. Marines must ensure they guide their performance, behavior, and conduct every munute of every day.
Honor - Integrity, Responsibility, Accountability
Courage - Do the Right thing, in the Right way, for the Right reasons
Commitment - Devotion to the Corps and my fellow Marines

OIF Emblem & Arabic Tattoo

This is the tattoo that I had done in California right after I got home from Iraq in March 2005. The Arabic line below the Eagle, Globe and Anchor says "Stop or I'll Shoot".

Proud USMC Wife Tattoo

I got this tattoo on May 16th, 2007 since it was two years to that day me and my Marine were together. It represnts the love and pride towards my husband and the Corps! The ega obviously represents the Marine Corps since it's a BIG part of our. The guardian angel wings to watch over us. Our wedding date is going down the cross and the cross is a budded cross. The three buds stand for love, internity, and happiness. And of coarse the Semper Fidelis since I'll always be faithful to my Marine, Ooh-rah!

Proud USMC Wife Tattoo

I got this tattoo to honor my husband, Sgt. Nunez, while he was in Iraq. I love old skool pin-ups so I decided to give my pin-up girl a modified dress blues outfit to give her that "Semper Fi" look. She covers my left thigh and will be finished up with a Marine Corps inspired collage in the background at a later date.

Marine Corps Wife Pride

This is written in response the to the American Courage #148 newsletter. I read the various responses both for and against a wife getting an EGA tattoo. I am married to a Marine and I feel that I sacrifice just as much as he does. We've been married for less than 2 years, we're on our 2nd deployment and are looking at a third before our 3rd anniversary. I don't feel like I've earned the EGA though. My husband busted his @$$ over the course of 13 weeks to earn the right to wear the emblem, I did not (even though we've been together since before he went to boot). However, I wanted to show my pride in being a married to one of the few and the proud. I custom made my own tattoo. Semper Fidelis with roses, a symbol of the strength and beauty of Marine Corps wives. Here is a picture of my tat:

I will always be faithful to my husband, my children and my country. I am here backing up my husband at home so he can do the job he proudly signed up for. He's a grunt and I couldn't be prouder of him.

Do what you think is right, but I agree with most of the people who said that you have to "earn" the right to wear the EGA. It's more than just 13 weeks of bootcamp, 1 mo of SOI, 7 mos of combat duty in Iraq. It's blood, sweat, tears, being in a fire fight and watching your brother die beside you. It's fighting for your life. We go through our hardships at home, but nothing will ever compare to what our Marines go through.

Respectfully,

Marine Mom Tattoos

In response to the wife who wants a tattoo and her husband doesn't want her to get it....Wait. He may change his mind. If he doesn't don't get the tat. Not because you weren't a Marine, but because he is your husband...

As for earning the EGA... I am a Marine Mom! I earned every bit of my tattoo but as for respecting that I have not "officially" served, I explained my EGA this way - The tattoo is a simple EGA with USMC across it. Over it it says "For my son" under, it says " who chooses to serve". I can not tell you how many Marines have complimented me on this. It has drawn a lot of comments and NEVER once has a Marine told me I didn't earn this. They usually thank me for my support and are surprised that this mom would do something like that for their child. Since my back has the story of my family on it and I cannot see it, I also have a piece of my back story around my left ankle. I have a Cross, two hearts with mine and my husbands initials in them, an EGA for my son and a little angel for my daughter. These I can see but most do not pay attention to them. The EGA there is hardly ever noticed but I know it is there. It is on the back of my ankle and although it is very visible, many do not even know what it is. What my husband loves - is that both EGA's are on my back side - indicating what we know already - My Marine has my back!!!

Hopefully this helps.

Radiation Symbol Tattoo

Radiation Symbol Tattoo

This is a pictures of my husbands tattoo. He got it right before he left for Iraq this January 2007. I had been dying for him to get one since we met and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. We got one together! He is an NBC guy, so his friend designed a bio-hazard symbol and we placed the words death before dishonor around it. It is a moto tat for a moto marine. Ancient Tattoo

On a 1949 night that I and a couple buddies (first) made Corporal we went to J'ville for the poverbial stewed, s...ed and tattooed routine. This is what a 58 year old globe and anchor looks like. The EGA is a new phrase. We old farts called it a globe and anchor. Perhaps I should get it redone :-) ...

Thanks for posting all the pics Gunny.

My Marine Son's New Tattoo

Dear Sir -

Attached are a few pictures of my son's new tattoo. When he finished with boot camp in 2005, he came home and got a tattoo of a dragon that covers his right upper-arm. He said that he probably would not get another tattoo. However, with the new rule that went into affect recently, as well as the arrival of his 21st birthday, obviously he changed his mind. So, just before the new rule went into effect, he went out and got this tattoo. I'm not a huge fan of having a lot of tattoos. However, my son has worked very hard to be the fine Corporal in the Marine Corps that he is today. He is also a wonderful son. The tattoos don't change any of that. If he enjoys his body art, which he does, then that's what matters the most. Also, they will be a reminder of home that he can carry with him when he goes on his 2nd deployment to Iraq later this year.

Sorry this letter is so long but I would also like to thank your readers. I have actually been considering getting a tattoo on my calf. I had never even considered a "Marine Mom" design, but it sure makes sense. The pictures these moms shared gave me some great ideas. If "once a Marine always a Marine" is true, then I will always be a "Marine Mom" no matter where my son's life takes him.

Marine Corps Tattoo

I wanted to share my tattoo with you all. It is my second tattoo, I got it the day after I got my first tattoo. I knew I wanted a tattoo for a while but waited until I finished training. It is the first of my permanent moto-wear. I feel proud to display my love for the Corps. I hope that all who see it are as proud to be an American as I am!

USMC tattoo

I saw your page on Marine Corps tattoos and wanted to share mine. I got it about a year after I was discharged from the Corps due to injury. I was up late last night and saw a news report of Marines deploying to Iraq and noticed some guys I served with. The next day I went out and got my tattoo as a way of telling them and myself that while I couldn't be with them, this Marine is Always Faithful. I decided to get this Eagle, Globe and Anchor in the same size and location as the (now) embroidered one on the cammie blouse, on my left rib cage.

Daughters USMC Ink

Hi! I came across your tattoo page and decided to send my daughter's pics in. She always wanted a tat from the time she was 15. My husband and I told her she had to wait until she was 18 and on her 18th birthday, we went to get her first one. By this time, she knew she was going to join the Corp and she wanted to get a USMC tat. I told her absolutely not... that she wasn't getting anything that said USMC until she had earned it it by actually graduating boot. So, she settled for getting the chinese symbol for self-discipline on her back right shoulder as she knew this was something she was going to have to learn in order to get through basics. The colours are my favourite (purple) fading into her favourite (yellow).

In Dec of 03, she hopped a bus for Parris Island. It was a long, difficult process for her, especially being broken down and rebuilt into the awesome person and Marine she is today, but she made it through the trials and tribulations to the day she got to walk across the parade deck and was given her ega. When she came home on leave, the first thing she wanted to do was get her USMC tat. She wanted something feminine but not too girly and opted for the vine with a few flowers and USMC inside on her lower back. She loves her tats and was never more proud of a tattoo than this one because she knew what she went thru in order to earn not only this tattoo, but the title United States Marine.
