Dan's M-60 Tattoo Dan's USMC Emblem tattoo I got theses 2 a few months ago. I always the M-60 somewhere but wanted it where it would be seen. It took me 39 years but its there now. The artist came up with the combat action ribbon in the sling. I get lots of complements about the 60.

Son of Marines

USMC Barbed wire and Dog Tag tattoo

Sgt Grit,

Our son has dedicated a tattoo to his parents, both Marines.
His father has retired and served from 1981 to 2005.
Dad served with 3/4 Wpns Co. and was in the first MARSOC BN formed.
Dad went on to Paris Island as an 8511 Drill Instructor 1 BN, B Co 1986 to 1988. He then got out of active duty, but in 1989 he was back in the Marine Corps reserve E Co. 2/25.
My mom was a Marine cook at Paris Island 2ND BN, and was also attached to special services were she was a lifeguard.
My dad was a Water Safety Survival Instructor (WSSI) when he met my mom.

In 1990 March 13 is when I come into the picture. For my first birthday my dad was not able to be there, he was ordered into active duty from the Marine IRR for Operation Desert Storm. I look for my dad in my first birthday photos, but he in not there. My mom said he was called to protect me, as I was later told. Mom said dad is a hero your hero.

My mom went to school to complete college and get a masters degree. Dad he was in the reserves and employed as a Federal Corrections Officer, he is very good working with people.

In 1994 my dad joined the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He went to the National Guard to drive tractor trailer. He said that was good until he was called into active duty in 2003.

Dad had to go away for awhile to a place called Iraq.
Then the impossible happened to me. I was diagnosed to have juvenile diabetes. This was a shock to everyone.

My dad in Iraq would write to me trying to support me, but he had his own problems driving that M915A4 tractor trailer in Iraq. Dad wrote about all the things blowing up as he drove in Iraq. I guess he was more scared, but he did not show it in his letters home.

Dad made in back home in 2004, but I can see he was not the dad that went to Iraq. For two years dad would try to forget the war by drinking a lot.

Finally in 2006 dad went to the VA for some help, and he was told he has P.T.S.D. and severe anxiety. Dad now has to take alot of pills to stabilize him. He dose not work any more for he is at 100% disabled and medically retired from his job he worked for 18 years.

I am his son a sophomore at Ithaca College, NY.

To honor my Dad and Mom I did this tattoo for their part of service.

I love my Mom and Dad even though they are no longer together I still love them.

I love you.
From your loving son, Nicholas.

John Pullin's Eagle Globe and Anchor tattoo on his left shoulder

Sgt Grit, I’ve been thinking about getting this tattoo for a long time and finally did it. And I am very pleased with how it turned out. I joined our beloved Marine Corps in the fall of 1983, the day after the Marine Barracks in Beirut was blown up. Well I served four years and extremely proud to call myself a Marine. As I am sure we all are.

Once A Marine Always A Marine

Marine Tattoo

Steven Ruttenberg's Marine Tattoo

Hello,

I am a former Sgt USMC. I knew from the day I was born that I wanted to be a Marine and so off I went to boot camp arriving Oct 17, 1983, San diego, CA. I was assigned to Platoon 3105 Lima Co. Six days later 220 Marines were killed in Beirut. I so wanted to be assigned to the infantry and go over there and kill those cowards that did that. But I never got the chance. Every year I remember those Marines. In honor of them, I had my entire back tattooed. Here is a picture of it. It was the most painful 10 hours of my life. But those Marines I never met and the cowardly act that killed them helped me to endure the pain. I did it for them and only them.

If you would like a higher resolution or larger pic let me know.

Sincerely,
Steven Ruttenberg

Here are two pictures of my tattoo - I did it to honor all Marines, past, present, and future. It was done by "Stingray" in Iowa City. I was with E/2/24 from 1983-1989.

First, I want to say how much I enjoy reading your newsletters every week. I also want to thank you for all the high quality "moto" gear that I have enjoyed from your store over the last few years. Whenever I need something Marine-related you are always where I turn to first.

I also wanted to tell you about my husband, who has served in the Marine Corps Infantry for 9 years. He left just over a month ago for his second combat deployment. He first deployed to Iraq in 2003 and now he is currently serving in Afghanistan. Words cannot express how proud I am of my husband and the sacrifices he continues to make for our country. Before my husband left he was describing to me how several Marines he knew had their wives just up and walk out on them, unwilling to go through the deployment with them. Well that made me really angry to hear! Just as Marines have a code of honor, so do Marine wives. When we said "I do," we were making a promise to stand by our Marines through thick and thin. So to show my husband that I am behind him 100% I went and got this tattoo just before he left. True love is not weakened by a deployment - it is made stronger. Thank you to all the Marine spouses and significant others that stand faithfully by their Marines through good times and through hard times.

Eagle, Globe and Anchor and clouds tattoo

Hello everyone!!! I've purchased from this site before and just came acroos this page. I've had the emblem for a few years and last night, on a whim, decided to do more. I went with the clouds theme with bursting bombs around it. Hope you all like it. Work done by Andre Cheko, by far, one of the most talented 23 yr olds I've ever met.

Semper Fi Corpsman

Robert's Semper Fi Corpsman tattoo

Dear Sgt.Grit,

I have been reading your newsletter for a while now and have ordered several items through your wonderful catalog. It is inspiring to see the amount of loyalty and time honored tradition that you display.

I served from 1980 to 1985 as a corpsman, 14 months of which was on the island of Okinawa at !st Marine Air Wing MCAS Futenma. I was assigned to the dispensary as well as to MATCS 18 when they deployed to the field.

In October 1983 when the Marine barracks were in Beirut were bombed we all felt the loss of someone who we knew. The base had a candleight service that evening to honor our fallen comrades and it did not matter whether you were Navy or Marine, we all came together as one at this time of sorrow.

I recently decided to add another tattoo to my collection, and since I had none from my service days, my wife and I thought a memorial tattoo to my fallen brothers would be appropriate.

Below is my latest tat, and the phrase I think I coined, "semper fi corpsman". I have been called devil doc and doc by many, but this term seems to fit like a glove. The upside down hearts represent teardrops, one for our fallen Marine brothers and the other for all of the corpsman that have died doing what they do.

Thank you for your newsletter, keep up the excellent work you do and semper fi to all who served before, who now serve and who will in our future protect this great country..

God bless

USMC tattoo

To LCpl Hill,

I have a tattoo of the Eagle, Globe and Anchor, but not in the traditional sense, as I have not earned the right to wear it as a Marine. I have been with my Marine for almost 10 years, and during our 2nd deployment, I had the notion to be tattooed with a shadow of the Eagle, Globe and Anchor. To be a true shadow, it would have been placed backwards, but that seemed wrong in more ways than not... I hope you will not take offense to my tribute, as it is but a shadow.
Hoping no one is offended, Proud Marine Wife to SSgt. Vail

Troy Kroll's EGA Tattoo Troy Kroll showing off his EGA tattoo At ease, I’ll be in the area all day…

Here I am 20 years since I was between schools to become a 2171 Electro-Optics Tech and I just recently got my EGA tattoo. While I served 88-92 and 95-96 I was fortunate to have good commands, work with many good units, and serve with great Marines. My time in the Corps was outstanding but I never did get a Marine Corps tattoo. I have two other small tattoos but they are generally unseen. I was no longer satisfied with just sporting the great apparel and goods that you guys offer and decided it was time to permanently show my pride. I got this tattoo on the inside of my right forearm, that way whenever I extend my arm to shake someone’s hand they can see who and what I am. With our 234th birthday approaching I will raise my beer(s) and toast all Marines young and old!

Color EGA tattoo Sgt. Grit,

Here is a picture of my recently acquired USMC tattoo. My father and brother also served in our glorious Corps. My father passed away last year to cancer and I wanted to honor him and our bond together. I got the EGA and added the M3 to signify my dad, my brother, and myself (as all of our first names begin with the letter "M"). The cased American flag signifies my father's passing and receiving full military honors. I also had "Father, Sons, Brothers Forever" to represent the bond that the three of us will always share.

USMC tattoo & its story

Sgt. Grunt,

I’ve attached a picture of my USMC tattoo I created with the help of Scott @ a tattoo shop in Chaska, MN. I was active duty from 1978 through 1982 and attached to HMM-262 based in Kaneohe, HI. I chose the EG&A along with the blue oceans because I wasn’t in HI for 6 months before departing on my first West Pac cruise aboard the USS New Orleans. Less than 18 months later I was on my second West Pac cruise aboard the USS Okinawa. It was a great adventure for a 19 year old kid to earn his Crew Chief wings and be able to fly over and throughout HI, the Philippines, Africa, Australia, Japan and even landed on Diego Garcia! The initiative and discipline I learned as a Marine has carried me successfully through two college degrees, multiple highlights and some tough life-lessons.

Semper Fi to my father and brother, both former Marines and all other readers of Sgt. Grit!

USMC tat

Bunny with crossed M-16s tattoo This is my "moto" tattoo, me and another marine in my barracks became good friends, she was moving on to her C school and we wanted to get "moto" tats. All the tattoo shops around Pensacola are very familiar with moto tats, but none were feminine enough, so we both came up with this design on our own. We wanted something that said hey, we are women, but that doesnt mean we can't still kick your ass!! OORAH AIRCREW

This is part of the moto tat sleeve that I am working on. I played on the saying "Heaven won't take us and Hell is afraid that we will take over." This tat is only two weeks old and is still healing. The Devil Dog is standing on a pile of skulls and he is on fire. He is also holding the Devils head in one hand and a 249 SAW in the other. More to come.
