H Company, 2nd Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment (Vietnam) held a reunion in Arlington, Virginia, August 31st – September 6th, 2015. We held a Memorial Service at the Iwo Jima Memorial for the 74 Marines and Corpsmen we lost during our time in Vietnam. Our guest speaker was Rear Admiral Brent Scott CHC, USN, Chaplain of the Marine Corps. Our Invocation was given by Commander Stephen Coates CHC, USN, Assistant Deputy Chaplain of the Marine Corps.
The Bugler that played Taps was MGySgt. Mathew Harding from the Marine Corps Band “The Presidents Own” and we had a Color Guard from 8th and I.
I am going to attach the write up from the Marine Corps Public Affairs that they did about the Ceremony and contains several pictures that they took. I am also attaching the program for the Ceremony.

A kid that was in my High School graduating class died at Margo. He was part of BLT 2/26 He was killed 16 Sept 68. Didn’t find out until I got home.He was in country about 1or 2 weeks. very sad. Name was Gary Daffin 0311 Paul
Sept 2018. The 2/26 had a 50 year reunion of the battle at LZ Margo. Wasn’t really a battle but ,a fight for survival. such a waste of good Marine blood . Just like the whole war, just a big waste of good men Nick
In the summer of 1968 I was a member of whiskey battery a four Duce mortar weapon and we went on float with with 2/26. We were a reinforced battalion our own helicopters, tanks, amtracks on five ships floating up and down the coast of Vietnam. We didn’t get to stay on the ship for long as it seemed there always another operation to go on. 2/26 really took it on the chin at LZ Margo. I can’t remember why but I was sent back to the ship on a working party to pull all the personal gear from the 2/26 grunts that were killed or wounded. We had to stack all there sea bags in an area on the ship. Man there was a lot. Very sad.
Like to hear about 1/7 & 3/7 (Westpac), 1st Recon Bn, 2nd Recon Bn (Onslow Beach), 5th Recon Bn (Pendleton back in the day) if you can point me in the right direction Top.
Thanks for sharing your post Cpl. Hancock.
Every year 2nd Battalion/9th Marines hold a reunion at the Marriott Residence Hotel, Roslyn, during the birthday in November. It is just a short walk to the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima) and always a memorable experience. Semper Fi!!
