Hawaii Marine Stabbed to Death, Wife Charged

Hawaii-based Marine has died from wounds sustained during a Sunday night stabbing incident.

Sgt. Juan Iturbide, a native of Orange, California, was pronounced dead at the Kaiser Medical Center following the incident that occurred in Moanalua, Hawaii, according to Marine Corps officials.

The Marine’s wife, Evelin Iturbide, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder, according to Hawaii News Now. Her bail has been set at $750,000.

The 24-year-old Marine was a food service specialist with Headquarters Battalion on Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

“We mourn the loss of Sgt Iturbide. Our deepest condolences remain with his family and friends,” said Col. Raul Lianez, commanding officer, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, in a command release. “The sympathy and respect offered by the local community is appreciated by the Marines and families of MCBH.”

The young sergeant was a seasoned veteran with three at-sea deployments, including a stint in South Korea.

His death is currently under investigation by the Honolulu Police Department.
