Infantry Song

Sgt. Grit I am writing to you in hopes that you can help me. I would like to have a copy of the words to the infantry song chesty puller was a merry old soul. Its a infantry song that was sang to the nursery rhyme of old king cole,. We use to sing it back in 1991 when I was with the 3rd Marine Regiment, 1st. meb kaneheo bay hawaii . Any help you can give me with this would be greatly appreciated. I try to sing this to my 6 yr. old when he goes to bed. I’m not sure if its right though. Thank you in advance for your help.

BEER, BEER BEER SAID THE PRIVATES, SUCH MERRY OLD MEN ARE WE, WELL THERES NONE SO FAIR THAT THEY CAN COMPARE TO THE MARINE CORPS INFANTRY” Then it went on with Chesty calling up each rank with “HUP ONE HUP TWO SAID THE CORPORALS”, “WAR, WAR, WAR SAID THE SERGEANTS”, “HOW BOUT A THREE DAY PASS SAID THE GUNNYS”, “WHERE IS THE MAP SAID THE LOUIE” sorry but this formatting won’t let me create a new line.

I was stationed at KMCAS also in ‘67-‘68, but never had the opportunity to hear this catchy tune. After my tour in Vietnam, I was assigned to Barbers Point, but didn’t have the security clearance needed for my duty, so was assigned to Kaneohe Bay!:-). Semper Fi………….Sgt. Al Scott. ‘64’-‘70

Mr. Young:Glad to share good memories. I was at Camp Geiger 76-77, H.Q. Co. (Comm) 8th Marines.I also remember the eskimo women, as well as the girl from New Orleans, and the girl with the 40 inch bust. There were also references to coke machines and submarines. There was also the song, to the tune of “My Darling Clementine”: Sgt. Major, ship me over; I’m a lifer in the Corps. First you love me like a mother, then you ( common adjective inserted) me like a whore!

I don’t remember it all, but in Okinawa in 1960, it started out… Oh the eagle globe and anchor of the Corps, we’re the young men who know the score. We’re hired professional killers, we love to pillage, rape and burn. That’s all i remember

You have the first verse if the song right, I was a grunt at Lejeune from 95-04, First E 2/2 then F 2/8 here you go.
