USMC-Volunteer

I HAVE BEEN A FULL-TIME VOLUNTEER (MOS# 0000), SINCE 2012, TO THE MEMBERSHIP OF “THE SEMPER FI SOCIETY OF THE BRAZOS VALLEY”, IN SEALY, TX. I BECAME AN HONORARY E-1 & BEGAN PAYING YEARLY MEMBERSHIP DUES IN 2014 & IN MAY 2015, MY YEARS OF SERVICE, WAS RECOGNIZED BY THE GOV. OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY & RECEIVED MY COMMISSION AS A “COLONEL, HONORABLE ORDER OF KENTUCKY COLONELS”. ATTACHED IS A PIC OF THE CEREMONY & A FEW OF THE MARINES I HONORABLY SERVE. WHEN I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET LT. GEN. JOE WEBER, USMC (RET) I TOLD HIM: SIR, I NEVER OFFICIALLY SERVED IN THE USMC, BUT NOW THAT I AM RETIRED, I SERVE THOSE WHO TRULY DID SERVE IN THE CORPS. NEVER PRESENTED WITH AN “EGA” PIN, BUT MINE IS TATTOOED ON MY HEART”. HE SMILED, GAVE ME A BIG HUG, LOOKED ME IN THE EYES & SAID—“WELCOME TO THE FAMILY, JARHEAD !!!!!”. TEARS BEGAN TO SLOWLY ROLL DOWN MY FACE—WOW !!!!! AFTER 6 YEARS OF FAITHFUL SERVICE, I HAVE BEEN NOMINATED TO RECEIVE A RANK PROMOTION TO “PFC-VOL.” AND WHETHER OR NOT THIS EVER OCCURS, I AM STILL A VERY BLESSED & CONTENTED SR. CITIZEN, TO BE AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THIS GROUP OF “USMC SPARTANS” —–SEMPER FI, OOORAH, & GOD BLESS THE USA !!!!!!

No, he’s paying the Corps the highest respect and I appreciate him. He’s an honorary jarhead in my book. (E 2-4–1969)

Sgt. Ralph W. McWilliams (ONCE A MARINE ALWAYS A MARINE) Concerning volunteers. If interested look up your nearest MARINE CORPS LEAGUE. We are nothing but volunteers helping Marines and their families. The League has many programs that needs volunteers and can really keep you busy. If you would like to contact me its jamesavant@comcast.net. Sgt. of Marines, Chaplain MCLGalveston, Chaplain Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6378, Chaplain VFW District 16. God Bless and Semper Fi.

I agree with Waldo,i don’t give my title away lightly. Why didn’t he Volunteer for active service when he had the chance. I wont let my kids place a sticker on there car, and pretend they were Marines.Where the hell do they come up with this stuff. Maybe it doesn’t matter to some but I had a lot of friends that feel the same. One day I met a person with a USMC sticker on the car and gave him a Semper FI, He said it came with the car when he bought it, I told him to take it the hell off. Some people like to pretend to be something there not .Semper FI. to all real Marines .

While the volunteers are appreciated for their efforts, save the ega’s for those of us that have served and truly earned the hardware and title. Semper Fi

I am sitting on the fence with this one! While I do appreciate the gentleman’s volunteering to support Marines and would certainly shake his hand and thank him, I for one one have never agreed with much in the way of “honorary anything”. If you did not earn it, such as the title of Marine and the moniker “Jarhead”, then you do not deserve to be referred to as one. I’m sorry but I take that stuff very seriously and can understand Waldo’s reply. The man should get many, many thank yous and hand shakes, but NO EGAs.

Iam a Vietnam veteran and I held the rank of Sgt while while a proud member of the Marine Corp. I have never heard of theU.S.M.C. volunteer if anyone could give some info. I would appreciate it.I enjoyed the story of the volunteer and I would love to send him EGA

Cpl. J. M. “Bull” Samuel, HMLA-369 Gunfighters - May 5, 2020

No kidding. As proud of my service as I am, I must say “lighten up Waldo”.

Waldo Searcy, He doesn’t claim to be a Marine, just proud to be associated with and be a volunteer serving Marines. I, for one, am thankful for his service. His honorary title is well deserved and earned! While I’m at it, Brother Searcy, not trying to be disrespectful, or bust your chops or anything, but ask yourself what have you done lately for your brothers and sisters. To the USMC-VOLUNTEER, A heartfelt hand salute and Semper Fi, Sir! OORAH!!!

If never actually served in the USMC AND DID NOT earn the right to be a Marine, then he should not be a Marine.
