Remembering A visit to Camp Lejeune

What a pleasure it was to meet the Marines of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina when I attended a Marine South Expo near the camp in 2014. I had always traveled west with my husband, so this was my first time experiencing the East Coast. I have to say, I loved it!

I met Melissa Apodaca, the only female on the All Marine Wrestling Team. I met Marine Capt. Kevin Knightly, WWBN-East, originally from Oklahoma City. He shared with me that he had attended a "grit-together" of ours. He had planned a return the following year, but tornadoes hit, and demolished his family's home and daycare business. Luckily, everyone survived.

I also humbly shook the hand of an Iwo Jima survivor and two-time Purple Heart recipient. It was an honor to stand in the presence of each Marine.
