Additional Info Tab:Established: 2014 Abbreviation: MCCIR Precedence Placed after the Marine Security Guard Ribbon and before the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. Purpose This special duty assignment (SDA) ribbon takes its place alongside ribbons recognizing the service of Drill Instructors, Recruiters, and Marine Security Guards. General Eligibility To earn the Marine Corps Combat Instructor Ribbon, a Marine must meet both of the following criteria:
- Serve in an eligible billet. Complete a successful prescribed tour of sufficient length. Eligible Billets Marines serving in an MOS 0913 billet (formerly known as 8513) who possess the 0913 MOS. Marines serving in billets at the School of Infantry (SOI) East or West containing the word "Instructor". These individuals must possess MOS 0913 and remain qualified as a combat instructor for the duration of the time serving in the billet. This also includes:
- Additional Advanced Infantry Training Battalion Billets. Reconnaissance Training Company Staff Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge. Reconnaissance Training Continuum Manager. Light Armored Vehicle Crewman Course Vehicle Operator. Marines serving in SOI East or West, including subordinate battalions, in the following leadership billets:
- Commanding Officer/Company Commander Sergeant Major Executive Officer Marine Gunner First Sergeant Operations Officer Assistant Operations Officer (S-3A) Future Operations Officer Operations Chief (See Note Below) Assistant Operations Chief (See Note Below) Platoon Commander Officer In Charge (OIC) (Does not include SNCOICs) Mobile Training Company Team Leader Director, Combat Instructor School (CIS) Assistant Director, CIS
- Combat Instructor: 36 months. Leadership Billets: 18 months. Note: The MCCIR may be awarded retroactively to all Marines with qualifying service beginning on or after 9 October 2002. Subsequent awards will be denoted by a 3/16" bronze star. A 3/16" silver star is worn in lieu of a 6th award.
