Heady Humor

I attended the University of Parris Island in October of 1963. Unlike several, I beat the draft by enlisting!! Boot Camp restrictions are something ONLY a Marine would understand. Among them was a restriction of movement in the barracks after lights out. Unfortunately, natures movement are about the ONLY thing that ignored Drill Instructors! In the middle of ONE night, nature took command and I sneaked into the head around two A.M. It was pitch black and I had to feel my way to the closest relief station. I was in the middle of my mission when I heard the station a couple down from me release it’s cargo. I was frozen and no further relief was possible. As I listened, the other visitor completed his mission and I heard him walk across the floor. THEN, the lights came on! There was one of my Drill Instructors! Let’s just say it didn’t take me long to finish my business! The rest is a blur of memory! Bill Kidd, SSgt, USMC, 1st Battalion, Platoon 185

I was also in the 1st Battalion Oct. 1963 to Dec 1963 Platoon 181, At first it was difficult to sit down in the head with 8 other guys doing the same thing with no walls. But we sure got use to it after a few days of holding it in….And god knows all the other places we went to the head…

In 1966, PLT 321, we had to sit up in our racks at attention until the firewatch signed his flashlight on us to ask permission to use the head. It was still easier than approaching the DI during the day and risking a bottle or two of “Ewe Juice”. (Louisiana hot sauce). Semper Fi

When I was there in 68 we could use the head at night BUT only with permission from fire watch. You will never believe this story. My bunkie would sneak in there for a smoke almost EVERY night.. I only had balls enough to do it once. Who came in to use the head our squad leader. All he said was YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY. I still keep in touch with my bunkie. He was one crazy guy. I will be going to Indiana to see him in a few weeks.
