If we’re now submitting new lyrics to songs, I have one from Desert Shield/Storm. I first heard it at 29 Palms by Sgt. Mick Gann (later Lt., hey, nobody’s perfect) in 1989. It got updated as Marines got reassigned. Here is the final version that I remember.

“Devil went down to Saudi”

The devil went down to Saudi
he was looking for a soul to steal.
He was in a bind cause he was way and he was willing to make a deal
When he came across a section firing HE and firing it hot,
the devil jumped up on an ammo crate and said,
“Marine, let me tell you what. I bet you didn’t know it, but I’m an 0811 too.
And if you care to take a dare, I’ll make a bet with you.
Now you got a pretty good gunner boy, but give the devil his due.
I got a round of gold against your soul cause I think I’m better than you.

The Marine said “My name’s Corporal Glenn, and it might be a sin,
but I’ll take your bet, you’re gonna regret, cause Mac’s the best that’s ever been.

Glenn, motivate your crew and shoot them rounds real hard,
cause hell’s broke loose in Saudi and the devil deals the cards.
And if you win, you get this shiny projo made of gold,
but if you lose, the devil gets your soul.

The devil spread his trails and said “I’ll start this show”
Then fire flew from his muzzle brake as he set that range aglow.
He pulled the lanyard across his waist and it made an evil boom.
Glenn thought he might se hell way too soon.

When the devil finished, Glenn said “You’re pretty good, old son.
But sit down on that crate right there and let Hollywood show you how it’s done.”

Harding’s on advanced party
Next round fired will be HE
We’ll shoot illum into the night
Go to Kuwait looking for fight.

The devil bowed his head cause he knew that he’d been beat.
And he laid that golden projo on the ground at Glenn’s feet.
Glenn said “Devil, just come on back if you ever want to try again,
I done told you once, you son of a @#%^&, the Mud Monsters are the best that ever been.

He said, “Harding’s on advanced party,
Next round fired will be HE,
We’ll shoot illum into the night
Go to Kuwait looking for a fight.
