Infantry Song

Sgt. Grit I am writing to you in hopes that you can help me. I would like to have a copy of the words to the infantry song chesty puller was a merry old soul. Its a infantry song that was sang to the nursery rhyme of old king cole,. We use to sing it back in 1991 when I was with the 3rd Marine Regiment, 1st. meb kaneheo bay hawaii . Any help you can give me with this would be greatly appreciated. I try to sing this to my 6 yr. old when he goes to bed. I’m not sure if its right though. Thank you in advance for your help.

My dad sang this to us as kids but the words he used were a little different.

I was at Kaneohe Bay MCAS 1st Bat 4th Mar Reg 1960-62, and we sang it as well. Everywhere I heard it, whether Hawaii or Geiger or Pendleton it was always a little different.

The Army’s fair but it can’t compare to Marine Corps Infantry.

Then as others have said, he calls for a higher rank and after they answer then the lower rank answers. So after the Cpls the Privates, then after the Sgts, the Cpls then Privates and so on.

Cpls – Women, women, women said the Cpls.
Sgts – Get those troops in step said the Sgts.
Gunnys – That’s a crock of shit said the Gunnys.
Louies – We do all the work said the Louies.
Captains – How do I read this map said the Captains.

So the last verse would go…
